Consortium announces eight new publishers for distribution

Consortium Book Sales & Distribution, one of Ingram Content Groups distribution brands, announces eight new publishers for the Spring 2019 season: Beehive Books, Braun Publishing, Floating World Comics, Green Card Voices, Inhabit Media, Lookout Books, Nightboat Books, and Tiny Owl Publishing. All presses begin distribution with Consortium on January 1, 2019.

Gale and American Antiquarian Society partner to digitize American Historical Periodicals Archives

The American Antiquarian Society has partnered with Gale, a Cengage company, to make the world's largest collection of Americana from the Colonial period through the 20th century more accessible to researchers. As part of the partnership, Gale has released American Historical Periodicals from the American Antiquarian Society, Series 6, a newly digitized series of nearly 200 titles that provides researchers with a history of the American people, offering multiple perspectives on the thought, culture, and society of North America through the eyes of those who lived and experienced it. Project ReShare launches: community-owned library resource sharing platform attracts significant contributions

(November 5, 2018). A group of leading library and information organizations has come together to create Project ReShare - a new and open approach to library resource sharing systems. ReShare aims to inject new life into this space by developing a community-owned resource sharing platform. ReShare's open source software will be built with a modular architecture focused on user-centric design. Organizations can adapt the system to their specific needs and experiment with new service models. Users will have the option to install the platform locally or select a preferred vendor for hosting and support. ReShare's Apache 2.0 software license will allow libraries, developers, and vendors to innovate freely. Project ReShare is currently seeking membership in the Open Library Foundation, which will own the project's intellectual property.

IU Libraries receives $1.2 million grant to develop ability to search digitized audiovisual files

(November 2, 2018). Current access to text-based data and knowledge is unprecedented in human history. Now, enabled by a $1.2 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Indiana University Libraries is setting its sights on the next research frontier: hundreds of millions of hours of audiovisual content. To unlock access to multitudes of unheard stories, IU Libraries will work extensively with project partners at University of Texas at Austin, New York Public Library and information management consultant AVP. Together the team will develop and test a scalable Audiovisual Metadata Platform, known as AMP, to generate searchable time-stamped descriptions for audiovisual content.

NISO Releases Draft KBART Automation Recommended Practice for Public Comment

(November 2, 2018). The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) seeks comments on a new draft Recommended Practice, KBART Automation: Automated Retrieval of Customer Electronic Holdings. KBART Automation is an enhancement to KBART, Knowledge Bases and Related Tools, the NISO initiative which provides a format for content providers to use to transfer journal and book metadata to link resolver knowledge bases and other library software. This new draft recommended practice provides instructions to support automated feeds customized to include the holdings available at a particular institution, making it much easier for libraries to know their knowledge bases are up to date with their current subscriptions.
