There's a new way for academic libraries to curate their ebook collections in critical subjects like physical sciences, engineering, and life sciences. 26,000 ebook titles on Elsevier's ScienceDirect platform are now available through OASIS, ProQuest's free web-based system for searching, selecting and ordering print and electronic books – giving ProQuest customers an additional way to acquire this sought-after content.

The Library of the University of Amsterdam and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences chooses Ex Libris Alma platform to enhance support for students, teachers, and researchers

(July 24, 2018). Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, announced that the Library of the University of Amsterdam (Universiteit van Amsterdam, or UvA) and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool van Amsterdam, or HvA) has selected the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform. The Alma adoption will help the universities improve the management of their growing e-resource collection and introduce operational efficiencies that will free librarians to deliver enhanced services. The Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution, which is already in use at the library, will be integrated with the Alma platform.

Flagstaff libraries improve workflow with new automated handling systems

Almost forty librarians from government, public, academic, health, engineering and legal libraries took part in our New Zealand National User Conference and Masterclass in Wellington in June. The free event for Liberty customers was also preceded by a site visit to the Environmental Protection Authority's library.

OCUL Members Select Ex Libris Alma and Primo Solutions

(July 12, 2018). Ex Libris announced that the Ontario Council of University Libraries has selected the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution. Thirteen OCUL libraries, including six ARL members, chose to move forward and participate in a collaborative purchase of the Alma and Primo solutions. Member libraries will be upgrading from the Ex Libris Voyager integrated library system, as well as replacing other third-party integrated library systems. The Alma platform will also be replacing a variety of link resolver and ERM systems. The Primo discovery solution will replace the diverse range of discovery systems currently in use among the members to provide improved discoverability of resources across the institutions.

Follett acquires Fishtree Adaptive Learning Platform

Follett announced that it has acquired Fishtree, a leading adaptive learning platform that streamlines both the technical integration and educational adoption of personalized learning in school classrooms. Follett will integrate the machine-based learning tools of Fishtree within Follett's industry leading Destiny content and resource management platform used by more than 70,000 schools and school districts across North America. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Impactstory awarded $850k to build open-access, AI-powered scholarly search engine, aims to help public find and understand research

(July 9, 2018). Nonprofit startup Impactstory announced new funding of $850,000, received as a grant from Arcadia, a charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin, to build a free search engine designed to help the public find, read, and understand peer-reviewed research on any topic. Impactstory will partner with the Internet Archive and the British Library for the project.

From July 9-23, readers can borrow the ebook with no waitlists or holds by visiting their library's digital collection or downloading the Libby app. More than 19,000 libraries worldwide will participate in the16th selection of the largest global digital book club. Big Library Read is facilitated by OverDrive, the leading platform for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines available in more than 90 percent of public libraries in the U.S. and Canada. Ex Libris, a ProQuest Company, gibt bekannt, dass die Polnische Nationalbibliothek die Bibliotheksdienstplattform Ex Libris Alma und die Discovery- und Delivery-Lösung Primo als Schlüsselkomponenten im E-Service-Projekt OMNIS der Bibliothek ausgewählt hat. Alma und Primo werden die Grundlage für einen einheitlichen nationalen Ansatz bei der Verwaltung, Discovery und Delivery von Bibliotheksressourcen bilden.

Kaltura 2018 Video in Education survey reveals 20 percent increase in lecture capture use over last two years

The 2018 State of Video in Education report from leading technology video provider Kaltura reveals a sharp uptick in higher education institutions' use of lecture capture, up 21% from 65% in 2016 to 79% this year. There is a strong appetite for capturing more than just the classes taking place in standard lecture halls too, with 10% of all those responding, saying they already capture over half of all classes wherever they take place, and 31% keen to follow their lead. Overall, 88% of respondents across higher education and K-12 either already use lecture capture tools or intend to in the future.

New study suggests engagement with digital learning tools can help predict outcomes and inform interventions for at-risk students

(July 12, 2018). A study released today by Blackboard, VitalSource, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) finds that engagement with digital learning tools can better predict student success than incoming GPA. The study found that students at UMBC who are highly engaged with digital learning tools were 200% more likely to pass their courses than less active students. Specifically, incoming C students with low engagement had a 37% likelihood of passing a class while similar students exhibiting the highest level of engagement with Blackboard Learn and/or VitalSource had a more than 90% likelihood of passing a class.

British Library partners with Impactstory for open access discovery

(July 12, 2018). The British Library exists to provide access to the world's knowledge for everyone, for research, inspiration and enjoyment. But what does this mean in a publishing environment where increasingly more and more scholarly work is being published open access? As funders, researchers and universities realise that research must reach beyond academia, more research is now made publicly accessible. However, access to information is only half the battle. Before we can all benefit from the accessibility of this research, we first need to find it.
