Zhejiang Province Launches Popular English Language eBook Library in China

(March 15, 2018). The Zhejiang Library, together with OverDrive, the world's leading digital reading platform for libraries and schools, announced the launch of its digital library collection with a large catalog of eBooks and audiobooks. Based in Hangzhou, a world-class technology hub and home to e-commerce giant Alibaba, this provincial library is the seventh library in China – including Capital Library in Beijing, Shanghai Library, and Shenzhen Library – to join OverDrive's worldwide network of 40,000 libraries and schools.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Awards Grant to the Internet Archive for Long Tail Journal Preservation

(March 13, 2018). The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a research and development grant to the Internet Archive to address the critical need to preserve the “long tail” of open access scholarly communications. The project, Ensuring the Persistent Access of Long Tail Open Access Journal Literature, builds on prototype work identifying at-risk content held in web archives by using data provided by identifier services and registries. Furthermore, the project expands on work acquiring missing open access articles via customized web harvesting, improving discovery and access to this materials from within extant web archives, and developing machine learning approaches, training sets, and cost models for advancing and scaling this project's work.

EAST Joins the Rosemont Shared Print Alliance

bepress and SSRN Announce Integration Pilot with Columbia and University of Georgia Law Schools

(March 12, 2018). Bepress and SSRN are pleased to announce a joint pilot to explore integration between their two platforms. The four-month pilot launches today with the participation of Columbia Law School's Arthur W. Diamond Law Library and University of Georgia School of Law's Library. Both bepress and SSRN are eager to explore potential solutions to the obstacles that professional schools and their libraries face in promoting their open access scholarship. The initial pilot offers one possible model for demonstrating the increased reach of legal scholarship when work is available through an open access repository as well as a specialized network of peers, by simplifying population of and aggregating research impact from both platforms.

Ohio Digital Network brings Ohio to DPLA

(March 5, 2018). OhioLINK announced that more than 50,000 new materials from the Ohio Digital Network are now discoverable in Digital Public Library of America. Led by the State Library of Ohio and in partnership with OhioLINK, the Ohio Public Library Information Network, and the Ohio History Connection, the Ohio Digital Network builds on strong digital collection efforts across the state, including extensive digital collections at OhioLINK member institutions, Ohio Memory, and the Ohio Digitization Hubs project.

Michigan Shared System Alliance selects Ex Libris Alma and Primo Solutions

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, announced that the Michigan Shared System Alliance has chosen the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution to enhance collaboration, efficiency, and services for the Alliance's members. (February 28, 2018). LYRASIS announced the release of a new Guidebook as the culmination of the "It Takes a Village: Open Source Software Sustainability" project. The Guidebook is designed to serve as a practical reference source to help open source software (OSS) programs serving cultural and scientific heritage organizations plan for long-term sustainability. This sustainability effort includes ensuring that commitment and resources will be available at levels sufficient for the software to remain viable and effective as long as needed.
