(November 13, 2017). John F. Szabo, City Librarian of the Los Angeles Public Library, was formally appointed Chair, and Bernadette Gray-Little, Chancellor Emerita at the University of Kansas, and Peter Sidorko, University Librarian at The University of Hong Kong, took their seats on the OCLC Board of Trustees today during the board's November meeting.

Troy University is First in Alabama to Offer Visual History Archive

(November 13, 2017). Troy University is the first in Alabama to offer its researchers access to the University of Southern California (USC) Shoah Foundation's Visual History Archive®. Available to academic libraries through ProQuest, this fully streaming, primary-source archive includes more than 55,000 interviews with survivors of and witnesses to some of humanity's most serious and solemn events, including the European Holocaust, the Nanjing, Rwandan, Cambodian, and Guatemalan genocides and contemporary antisemitism. Access to the Visual History Archive enriches the University's growing Holocaust education and research program.

LYRASIS and DPLA Announce Partnership to Provide eContent Services through Library Simplified

(November 9, 2017). LYRASIS and DPLA are proud to announce a partnership to pilot a new eContent delivery and management service for libraries. The new initiative will offer cloud-based hosting of Library Simplified, an open source, middleware solution and administrative tool for libraries used to merge content from multiple sources, add open content, manage and curate collections and make them available in SimplyE. SimplyE is the open source iOS and Android app that provides robust multi-library discovery and reading capabilities. With the launch of this service, libraries can now acquire eContent in the DPLA Exchange (exchange.dp.la), manage and merge it with other content through the hosted Library Simplified administrative interface, then deliver to users in SimplyE. Together these services offer, for the first time, the possibility of a seamless and fully library-based delivery platform for licensed and open eContent.

Ex Libris announced that the Università degli Studi di Roma "Tor Vergata" (University of Rome Tor Vergata) has now gone live with the company's Leganto course reading list solution. Along with Tor Vergata's Ex Libris Alma library services platform and Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution, the Leganto service will provide instructors and students with all the functionality needed for creating, maintaining, and using reading lists.

The extension makes it easier for users to find and access content from Opposing Viewpoints In Context through their library from a Google search, creating a simple and direct path to authoritative digital resources. Despite guidance from librarians and educators, today's users are accustomed to letting a Google search guide them to informational content. The Chrome extension meets users in their workflow, furthering Gale's commitment to become better aligned to digital research.

Virginia's Community Colleges choose Alma to provide greater access to electronic resources

Ex Libris announced that the Virginia's Community Colleges has chosen the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and will integrate it with its statewide implementation of the Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution. Alma will replace the Ex Libris Aleph® integrated library system. The libraries of the nearly two dozen community colleges that constitute the VCCS will have the time-saving benefit of centralized acquisitions and collaborative decision-making.

EBSCO Information Services' OpenDissertations.org Project creates expanded discovery and access models around theses and dissertations

EBSCO Information Services and BiblioLabs have announced the launch of a collaborative open access initiative dedicated to advancing library and industry innovation related to electronic theses and dissertations. OpenDissertations.org, is committed to facilitating open and free access to ETD metadata and content. In addition to the fully open website, EBSCO will include EDT metadata in EBSCO Discovery Service to facilitate access and improve content discovery.
