Deakin University in Australia Selects Yewno Discover Research Application

Yewno announced that Deakin University, in Victoria, Australia has selected the Yewno Discover research application to support the interdisciplinary and explorative search needs of its faculty and students. University libraries that have adopted Yewno now span seven countries, including the US, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Italy and now, Australia.

The Board has appointed former Sodexo executive Patrick E. Connolly to succeed Griffith as President and CEO, effective January 2, 2018.

National Taiwan University opts for Ex Libris Alma library services

(January 16, 2018). Ex Libris announced that National Taiwan University has chosen the Ex Libris Alma library services platform to replace the school's library management system. In addition, NTU's local implementation of the Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution will be migrated to the cloud and integrated with the Alma platform. Through the software-as-a-service model, the university library services will enjoy benefit from the real-time synchronization and automatic updates of the Alma and Primo software solutions.

Public libraries lend record numbers of eBooks and audiobooks in 2017

(January 15, 2018). Rakuten OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform available to millions of readers from over 40,000 libraries and schools worldwide, reported record-breaking downloads of eBooks and audiobooks in 2017. With a library card and OverDrive or Libby app, readers borrowed more than 225 million digital books in the past 12 months, representing double digit growth from the previous year. A record number of libraries each served over 1 million digital books to their local communities last year, led by astronomical growth at Toronto Public Library (which reached 4.6 million digital checkouts), Los Angeles Public Library (3.7 million) and the National Library Board of Singapore (1.5 million).

LAC Group Names Corrao New CEO; Company Founder Schwarz Takes Strategy Role

Schwarz who started the company in 1986 and grew it from a one-person consultancy into an information management firm employing nearly 400 employees in the U.S. and U.K. will become the firm's Chief Strategy Officer, a newly created position.

Regional Western Australian Consortium chooses Civica's Spydus10 to deliver improved library services for a digital age

(December 18, 2017). Civica announced that a consortium of nine councils in Western Australia's Great Southern region has chosen Spydus10 for all its libraries. The consortium headed by the City of Albany consists of libraries from the Shires of Broomehill-Tambellup, Cranbrook, Denmark, Gnowangerup, Jerramungup, Katanning, Kojunup, and Plantagenet.

Pennsylvania Integrated Library System growth in 2017

(January 9, 2018). Pennsylvania Integrated Library System (PaILS), a consortium of Evergreen libraries, saw additional growth in 2017 adding the Bedford County Library System, Memorial Library of Nazareth and Vicinity, Bangor Public Library, Tunkhannock Public Library, Allentown Public Library, Bethlehem Area Public Library, Easton Public Library, and Shamokin Public Library. All of these libraries are now live on SPARK, the PaILS-operated, open source, Evergreen-based ILS. New libraries for 2018 will include the Huntingdon County Library, Potter-Tioga Library System, and 11 public libraries in Lehigh and Carbon Counties. This will bring the total to 122 service outlets. SPARK is hosted by the Equinox Open Library Initiative who also provide migration, consulting, training, and development services.
