SAGE Publishing launches Advance, a social sciences preprints service, in partnership with Figshare

(August 31, 2018). SAGE Publishing today launched its first preprints server for the humanities and social sciences, in partnership with Figshare. Advance: a SAGE preprints community will provide academic researchers with a global platform to share early versions of their work ahead of formal peer review and publication. The open access platform will support original research and reviews, making content open to receiving feedback from colleagues and peers. The service enables researchers to disseminate and start communicating about their time-sensitive work and ideas faster and to garner engagement and feedback throughout their research process. All preprints published on Advance are eligible for publication in a wide range of SAGE's portfolio of peer-reviewed journals.

New Zealand's Te Wānanga o Aotearoa chooses Ex Libris Alma library services platform and Primo discovery solution

Ex Libris announced that Te Wānanga o Aotearoa has selected the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and the Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution, replacing the school's Ex Libris Voyager integrated library system. Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWOA) is one of New Zealand's largest institutions of higher education, delivering courses at more than 80 locations.

Consortium of UK Local Authorities choose Preservica for preservation of digital government records

Gale helps Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools improve student engagement with Kids InfoBits

(August 30, 2018). Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools has seen an increase in student engagement by making database researching fun. The district is using Kids InfoBits from Gale, a Cengage company, to design lesson plans that focus on developing students' research and critical thinking skills. This enables students to gain comfort with database researching as they transition to higher grade levels, putting them on a path to discovery that fosters future-ready skills. IMLS Funds DuraSpace Fedora Investigation–Designing a Migration Path: Assessing Barriers of Upgrading to the Most Current Version of Fedora–No Collection Left Behind

The Institute of Museum and Library Services has awarded DuraSpace a National Digital Platform Planning Grant for $49,279 to investigate barriers to upgrading hundreds of U.S.-based libraries and archives running unsupported versions of Fedora. In consultation with stakeholders this project will conduct an environmental scan of relevant community initiatives, and gather primary research data to inform recommendations to reduce barriers to upgrading to the most current version of Fedora.

Library Simplified is an open source eReading platform initially developed by The New York Public Library with funding from the the Institute of Museum and Library Services to help libraries manage eBook collections, boost circulation and improve access to books to encourage reading and literacy. SimplyE is the mobile application that gives users one-click access to their library's eBook catalog with just a library card through the Library Simplified middleware platform, simplifying a user's ability to securely and privately connect with their library.

Digital Bookmobile marks 10th anniversary celebrating library ebooks

GOBI Library Solutions from EBSCO and TIND partner to improve acquisitions workflows

(August 24, 2018). A new partnership between GOBI Library Solutions from EBSCO, a division of EBSCO Information Services, and TIND is aimed at streamlining GOBI acquisitions for TIND libraries. Libraries using the TIND ILS are now able to use new functionality to streamline the acquisitions process. Utilizing the GobiAPI will allow TIND systems to fully integrate with the GOBI platform in real-time, facilitating the immediate transfer of bibliographic and order data from GOBI to TIND ILS.

Ingram Publisher Services, an Ingram brand, announces the addition of three new technical and professional publisher clients to its sales and distribution network including: Hanser Publications, The Institution of Engineering and Technology, and International Society for Technology in Education. Ingram Publisher Services will handle all distribution activities for these client publishers including warehousing, invoicing and collection, customer service and data management, and will provide sales representation to Amazon. In addition, IPS will handle sales representation to Baker and Taylor and Follett for IET and ISTE.

Equinox migrates Keystone College to Koha

(August 22, 2018). Equinox announced the successful migration of Keystone College to Koha. The migration encompassed 41,028 bibliographic records and 3,561 patrons including bibliographic, patron, item, and transactional data. Equinox provided Koha support, hosting, and auxiliary services to Keystone College as well as implementation and project management. Remote training was also provided by Equinox's staff. Keystone College was founded in 1868 as Keystone Academy as one of the first institutions of higher education in northeastern Pennsylvania. This year they are marking their 150th Anniversary.
